CAN-AM: Ottawa’s Boucher Hits Game Winning RBI On Mom’s Birthday

Ottawa, ON – The Ottawa Champions walked off with a 3-2 win over the Trois-Rivieres Aigles with an RBI single from CF Sebastien Boucher in the bottom of the 10th inning. The run broke up a low-scoring affair. Ottawa scored two in the fourth with a sacrifice fly and RF Chris Winder RBI single. Trois-Rivieres chipped away with a SS Pedro Lopez RBI single an inning later and then another Lopez RBI single in the seventh.

With just five runs allowed between both teams, pitching was solid. Ottawa’s Nick Purdy picked up the win after allowing no runs in the final two innings. Trois-Rivieres’ Edilson Alvarez also deserves praise after pitching 6.2 innings with just two runs allowed.

CAN-AM: Champions Fall Short In Comeback Bid Verse Wingnuts

Ottawa, ON – A four-run fourth inning and a terrific pitching effort from Scott Richmond lead the Wichita Wingnuts to a 5-3 victory over the Ottawa Champions. Richmond notched his third win of the year as he gave up an earned run, a walk and eight hits in seven innings of work. Wichita RF David Espinosa led the offence going 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Wingnuts LF Joash Brodin chipped in with two hits while 3B TJ Mittelstaedt and C John Nester each drew two walks. For Ottawa in the loss, DH Bryce Massanari had a 2-for-3 day with a run batted in.

CAN-AM: Ottawa Bats Fall Silent Against Sussex County

Ottawa, ON – A dominant start from Sussex County pitcher Shawn Sanford helped the Miners defeat the Ottawa Champions 7-1. Sanford pitched the complete game, allowing just one run in the process. Sussex County didn’t score a lot in any given inning but rather applied pressure throughout the game with its runs spread across the game. In the sixth, CF Ryan Mathews hit a solo homer, which was one of his two RBIs. RF Jon Dziomba led the Miners with three hits, and he also had two runs. 1B Brett Zaziski added two hits, one run and one RBI.

The single run for Ottawa occurred after a SS Daniel Bick single coupled with an error. DH Alex Nunez scored that run.

CAN-AM: Ottawa Suffers 8th Inning Heartbreak Against Garden State

Ottawa, ON – The Garden State Grays scored a pair of runs on a single from CF Darian Sandford in the top of the eighth inning and those runs proved to be the difference as the Grays edged the Ottawa Champions 6-5.

The Grays took a lead in the top of the third inning as LF Shawn Payne singled to plate a pair of runs and then scored on a double by 3B Luis Gonzalez. In the fourth, 2B Victor LeBron scored on a single by C Erik Kozel to give the Grays a 4-0 lead but the Champions got on the board with a sac fly from 1B Jon Talley in the bottom of the fourth. Ottawa took the lead with a pair of runs in both the fifth and sixth innings but Sandford erased that lead with his two-RBI single in the eighth.

Garden State reliever Matt Wickswat picked up the win as he worked 3.1 innings without allowing a hit or a run. He struck out five batters and did not issue a walk.

CAN-AM: When It Rains It Pours, Champions 0-2 In Doubleheader

Ottawa, ON – In the first game of the doubleheader the Capitales were powered by the middle of the order in game one of a doubleheader, winning win 7-1 over Ottawa. RF Alexi Bell was the only player to score multiple runs in the game. He went 4-5 with three runs and a stolen base. C Jean-Luc Blacquiere also went 4-5. The catcher scored a run and also drove home two runs in the top of the third inning with a single. Bell and 2B Jonathan Malo scored on the play. Starter Shelden McDonald was the winning pitcher after going six solid innings. Reliever McKenzie Acker picked up the save after pitching the final three innings of the game.

3B Albert Cartwright drove home the only run for the Champions. He went 2-4 with an RBI after singling home LF Mike Schwartz in the sixth inning. Schwartz went 1-3 with a run scored.

In the second game of the doubleheader, Quebec starting pitcher Karl Gelinas dominated the 7-inning affair. Gelinas allowed just one hit with nine strikeouts and didn’t walk a soul. The starter continued his dominance over the past few games. In his past three starts, he has pitched 23 innings and only allowed one run and seven hits. Gelinas has baffled batters recently and pushed his season record to 7-2 with a 2.27 ERA. He got his run support in the first inning when second baseman Tyler Young scored on an error. The second run was also scored by LF Yuniesky Gurriel on a groundout by CF Kelian Sams.

Ottawa also got a strong performance from their starter Andrew Werner, who didn’t allow an earned run over the seven innings he pitched. The lone hit of the game was by 3B Albert Cartwright, who went 1-3 with a double. Ottawa was shutout 2-0 by Quebec.

CAN-AM: Champions’ Canada Day Celebration Ruined By Rain

Ottawa, ON – The Canada Day game between the Ottawa Champions and the Quebec Capitales was suspended as the National Capital Region was belted by thunderstorms.

The game was abandoned by the umpiring crew in the top of the third inning, with the visiting Capitales leading 6-0.

Dan Tobik got the start for Ottawa, giving up six runs on seven hits over two and a third inning of work, while Quebec starter Sheldon McDonald pitched a two-inning shutout.

The game will resume from its current position on Tuesday, July 14th at 5:05 pm as part of a doubleheader.

CAN-AM: Champions’ Boucher Solo Home Run Heroics Over Capitales

Ottawa, ON – The Ottawa Champions turned 15 hits into seven runs and that proved to be just enough as they took care of the Quebec Capitales 7-6.

All nine Champions in the batting order registered at least one hit in the game and they were led by CF Sebastien Boucher(pictured) who went 4-for-5 with a solo home run and a pair of runs scored. Three Champions – 2B Roberto Ramirez, 1B Jon Talley and SS Daniel Bick – had two hits in the game. For the Capitales, SS Jonathan Malo went 3-for-4 with three RBI and a runs scored and both C Jean-Luc Blaquiere and RF Yuniesky Gurriel added a pair of hits.

On the mound, reliever Jack Fowler picked up the win for working 1.1 innings and allowing two runs on two hits and Alan DeRatt earned the five-out save without allowing a run or a hit.

CAN-AM: Shikoku Island All Stars shut out the Ottawa Champions 3-0

Ottawa, ON – The Shikoku Island All Stars shut out the Ottawa Champions 3-0 on Saturday night in Ottawa.

The All-Stars took the lead in the top of the second inning when SS Ryosuke Yotsuya singled home CF Yusuke Matsuzawa and then added to that lead with an RBI single from C Kosei Kawahara in the fourth and a sacrifice fly from DH Yoshihiro Kobayashi in the sixth.

The Champions were held to just four hits in the game, each from a different player. Starting pitcher Noriyuki Kobayashiearned the win as he went 6.2 innings and allowed just three hits and struck out five batters.

Ottawa, ON – Rockland stopped a late rally by Ottawa to maintain a 5-4 victory Thursday night. Rockland began the scoring by putting up three runs in the third inning – LF Stephen Cardullo hit a two-RBI single and CF Jared McDonald scored an unearned run. Ottawa then cut the lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the third when CF Sebastien Boucher hit a two-RBI double. Rockland answered with an RBI-single in the fifth inning from 2B Steve Nyisztor to make it 4-2 Boulders.

Ottawa climbed back and tied it at 4-4 in the fifth inning – C Bryce Massanari had an RBI-single and LF Mike Schwartz had an RBI-walk. But in the seventh, Rockland took a 5-4 lead with an RBI-single from Cardullo. The Champions were looking to rally with runners on second and third in the bottom of the ninth, but could not convert.

CAN-AM: Champions Beat By Boulders

Ottawa, ON – The Rockland Boulders scored four runs in the third inning and that proved to be enough as they took care of the Ottawa Champions 5-3.

After the first two batters of the top of the third inning were retired, the next six batters each recorded hits and four of them came around to score. DH Steve Nyisztor (pictured), who had a game-high three hits, opened the scoring with an RBI single and RF Joe Maloney and C Marcus Nidiffer followed that with matching RBI doubles. 3B Ryan Fisher added an RBI single to score Nidiffer. On the night, eight of the nine Boulders batters had at least one hit.

For the Champions, C Bryce Massanari and DH Matt Tenaglia each had two hits and LF Mike Schwartz had a pair of RBI.

CAN-AM: Ottawa Splits Doubleheader With Sussex County

Ottawa, ON – The Sussex County Miners turned heartbreak into triumph in a roller-coaster doubleheader versus the Ottawa Champions.

After an 8-7 walk-off Ottawa win in game one, Sussex County Miners starting pitcher Jamie Walczak threw a no-hitter in the second game of the doubleheader, leading his team to a 4-0 victory.

Walczak walked Sebastien Boucher in the first inning and again in the seventh but no other Champion reached base in the game. Walczack needed just 81 pitches to complete the seven-inning game and 52 of those pitches were strikes. He struck out five batters in the game. The no-hitter is the first in the Miner’s history.

The Miners bats provided two runs in the first inning with an RBI triple from CF Reggie Abercrombie and an RBI single from 1B Kenny Bryant in the next at bat. LF Johnny Bladel added a run in the second and Bryant scored again in the fifth this time on a double from RF Chris Valencia.

Ottawa manager Hal Lanier was ejected from the second game after arguing a close call on a stolen base. Pitching coach Billy Horn assumed the manager’s duties for the rest of the game.

The Champs won the series in the first game of the double header on a wild pitch walk off in the bottom of the eighth inning.

The Champions tied the score at six in the bottom of the sixth as CF Sebastien Boucher scored on a sacrifice fly from DHMatt Tenaglia. The scored stayed there until the top of the eighth when SS Cory Morales hit a sac fly of his own to score 1BKenny Bryant and give the Miners the 7-6 lead. But in the bottom of the inning, 1B Jon Talley blasted a ground rule double that scored Boucher and put LF Mike Schwartz on third. In the next at bat, Schwartz scored on a wild pitch to end the game.

Boucher was one of six Champions to have multi-hit games including RF Chris Winder who had a game-high three hits. For the Miners, CF Reggie Abercrombie went 2-for-4 with three RBI and C Jayson Hernandez added two RBI and two hits.

The Champions head into a day off on Sunday, before returning to RCGT Park to play the defending champion Rockland Boulders on Monday night. Purchased tickets on the Ottawa Champions website.
