OTTAWA, ON – Members of the public and media were encouraged to attend The Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa (Duke of Edinburgh’s Own) Battle of Vimy Ridge Commemoration Parade today in downtown Ottawa, Ontario.
The parade left Cartier Square Drill Hall, 2 Queen Elizabeth Dr. and marched to the National War Memorial, where a brief ceremony took place at approximately.
The event marked the First World War battle in April 1917, one of the most historic battles in Canadian history, which involved significant numbers of Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa (Duke of Edinburgh’s Own), many of whom made the ultimate sacrifice.
12 officers and 550 other ranks of the Regiment were tasked to the first four waves of the attack and suffered severe casualties including four officers and 82 other ranks killed. An additional 223 were wounded. The Regiment was awarded one Victoria Cross, three Distinguished Conduct Medals, and 18 Military Medals for actions by its members. The Regiment proudly holds an official Battle Honour for these actions.
The Regiment serves as Ottawa’s official regiment, providing ceremonial guards of honour for visiting dignitaries, national ceremonies and other events.

OTTAWA, ON – The 16th edition of Canada Army Run, presented by BMO, brought together thousands of runners and supporters to the streets of Ottawa. Throughout the weekend, a series of family-friendly activities were held, with the festivities concluding through various races. This year’s event provided racers with the unique opportunity to run, roll, or walk alongside members of the military in the 5K, 10K, half marathon, Sergeant Major’s Challenge (5K + 10K), and Commander’s Challenge (5K + half marathon). Lieutenant-General Jocelyn Paul, Commander Canadian Army, had the honour of kicking off the races. Those unable to participate in person have been virtually taking part in the event since September 8 and will continue racing virtually until September 29.
In addition to being an opportunity for Canadians to thank Canadian Armed Forces members who serve at home and abroad, Canada Army Run directly supports serving members, Veterans and their families, with race proceeds and participants’ fundraising efforts going to Support Our Troops and Soldier On.
The theme chosen for Canada Army Run 2023, “Showcasing the Army of Today,” aimed to present the current reality of the Canadian Army while also offering participants and supporters a deeper understanding of the current opportunities available within the military and the contributions made by the military to Canada’s safety.

PETAWAWA, ON – The 2023 IRON WARRIOR (IW 23) marked the 40th anniversary of this annual tradition testing physical fitness and mental resiliency during a 42-kilometre marathon on Friday, and a 21-kilometre sprint on Saturday.

PETAWAWA, ON – November 24-26, 70 members of the Canadian Forces 33 Service Battalion three detachments from Ottawa, North Bay, and Sault Ste Marie, gathered at CFB Petawawa for Exercise OWL TALONS.
33 Service Battalion is a Canadian Forces Primary Reserve unit falling under 33 Canadian Brigade Group, responsible for providing Combat Service Support to eastern and northern Ontario, including cities such as Ottawa, North Bay, and Sault Ste Marie.
Ex OWL TALONS was a section competition based exercise matching sections against each other on a number of soldier skills including, section attacks, first aid, minefields and CBRN (Chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear defense), as well as getting some time on the 9mm range for live fire.
