Ottawa, ON – The Ottawa Champions took the lead with four runs in the sixth inning and held off a late surge to edge the Winnipeg Goldeyes 7-6.
In the sixth, the Goldeyes plated three runs in the top of the frame to take a 5-3 lead but in the bottom of the inning C Daniel Grauer and 2B Albert Cartwright hit back-to-back RBI singles to tie the game and they both scored when SS Daniel Bick reached on an error. In the top of the ninth, SS Casio Grider drew a walk and came around to score when CF Reggie Abercrombie — who was 3-for-5 — singled but Reliever Alan DeRatt retired the next to batters in order to end the game.
The save marks 21 on the year for DeRatt, the second-best mark in the league. CF Sebastien Boucher had a game-high three RBI as he went 2-for-4.
