CAN-AM: Champions Split Doubleheader With Grays

Ottawa, ON – After a long pitcher’s duel, the Ottawa Champions pulled away to beat the Garden State Grays 3-0 in the first game of a doubleheader. With the game still scoreless, Ottawa got on the board in the sixth inning with a sacrifice scoring SS Daniel Bick. In the seventh, the Champions tacked on two more runs through 2B Albert Cartwright’s RBI single and another sacrifice. Garden State 2B Joe Poletsky led the team with two hits.

The Ottawa pitching staff used four different pitchers in the shutout. Laetten Galbraith went the first three innings, then Drew Cisco – who got the win – pitched the next four, and finally Tyler Wilson and Alan DeRatt each pitched an inning.

The Garden State Grays avenged the earlier game with a late four-run rally to defeat the Ottawa Champions 6-4. Ottawa held a 4-2 lead headed to the seventh inning, but Garden State scored twice to tie it up, in part because of a 2B Joe Poletsky RBI double. Then they scored two in the eighth behind two singles to take the win. Matt Wickswat picked up the win for the Grays after three scoreless innings to finish the game.

Earlier in the fourth inning, Ottawa scored three runs on one play. With the bases loaded, 3B Kevin Carr hit a double that scored all runners. Starting Ottawa pitcher Andrew Werner had a quality start with six innings pitched and just two runs allowed.
