Ottawa, ON – Scotiabank Place is no stranger to hockey, being the home of the Ottawa Senators and Ottawa 67’s, but it was the parking lot that saw all the hockey action this weekend as 43 “street rinks” were set up for the 452 teams and over 2,400 players participating in Hockey Night in Canada’s Play On! Hockey Night in Canada’s Play On! features recreational and competitive 4-on-4 street hockey tournament divisions for boys, girls, men, and women of all ages and skill levels.
Hockey Night in Canada’s Play On! celebrates the game of hockey and Canadian culture with the hopes of making kids feel like NHL pros and helping adults feel like kids again. Since this program’s inception, over one million Canadians have “taken back the streets” from coast to coast through participation in one of the over 90 Play On! events held to date.
Winners and finalists in Elite Male (19+), Elite Female (19+), Grinders (u19), and Enforcers (u17) divisions from this event will be invited to join winners of the other twenty events taking place across Canada in competing for the 2013 Redwood Cup National Championships in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, September 26-28, 2013.
Hockey Night in Canada’s Play On! also has a charitable side with the UPS Corporate Division, which features corporate teams competing for a replica Redwood Cup. The Ottawa event beneficiary of this division is the Sens Foundation.
