Ingleside, ON – On 13-14 July, over 500 reenactors representing naval, artillery and infantry units from across Canada and the US converged on the Crysler’s Farm Battlefield Memorial grounds near Upper Canada Village to commemorate the Bicentennial of the Battle of Crysler’s Farm — when Lt.Col Joseph W. Morrison’s 1200-man “Corps of Observation” defeated an American army three times its size.
The event provided families, children and history enthusiasts with a unique opportunity to experience the attitudes and spirit of the times by attending 3 battle reenactments, a regency ball, and historically accurate portrayals of crafts, sports, military, merchants and civilian life of the War of 1812-1815 period. There was also expert presentations, militia musters for kids, and a military surgeon’s tent where he operated on wounded soldiers between the battle re-enactments.
On 11 November 2013 at 1:00 pm, on the actual 200th-anniversary date of the historic Battle of Crysler’s Farm, there will be a service of remembrance at the Battlefield Memorial to mark the Bicentennial of the Battle of Crysler’s Farm.
