CAN-AM: Second Inning Offensive Explosion Helps Champs Overcome Miners

OTTAWA, ON – The Champions’ offensive attack exploded in a five-run second and added on four more in the seventh and eighth innings, allowing the Champions to hold of the Miners 9-6. In the second, all five runs came across on plays without a base hit, but RF Derrick Pyles came up with a two-RBI single in the seventh, scoring on an RBI double from LF Matt Helms. An RBI groundout in the eighth plated the final run for Ottawa. Pyles and 1B Alexander Malleta each had two-hit games for the Champions.

LHP Yean Carlos Gil struck out six in five innings of work, earning the win for the Champions. The save went to RHP Tyler Wilson, who struck out two in a scoreless, 1-2-3 ninth.

For Sussex County, 1B Chris Jacobs was 3-for-4 with a home run.
