CAN-AM: Ottawa Suffers 8th Inning Heartbreak Against Garden State

Ottawa, ON – The Garden State Grays scored a pair of runs on a single from CF Darian Sandford in the top of the eighth inning and those runs proved to be the difference as the Grays edged the Ottawa Champions 6-5.

The Grays took a lead in the top of the third inning as LF Shawn Payne singled to plate a pair of runs and then scored on a double by 3B Luis Gonzalez. In the fourth, 2B Victor LeBron scored on a single by C Erik Kozel to give the Grays a 4-0 lead but the Champions got on the board with a sac fly from 1B Jon Talley in the bottom of the fourth. Ottawa took the lead with a pair of runs in both the fifth and sixth innings but Sandford erased that lead with his two-RBI single in the eighth.

Garden State reliever Matt Wickswat picked up the win as he worked 3.1 innings without allowing a hit or a run. He struck out five batters and did not issue a walk.
