CAN-AM: Champions Win 3 of 4 With 11-2 Domination In Final Game Verse Jackals

OTTAWA, ON – The Champions scored all 11 of their runs between the fifth and seventh innings, blowing open the ballgame and putting themselves in position for an 11-2 win over the Jackals. CF Sebastien Boucher capped off a four-run fifth with a two-RBI single. RF Kenny Bryant continued the offensive push with a solo home run to lead off the sixth, and six more runs came across in the seventh. 1B Alexander Malleta drove in two of those runs on a two-RBI single. Boucher and Bryant joined C Daniel Grauer and 2B Michael Mastroberti with two hits.

RHP Luis Munoz struck out five in seven innings, earning the victory for Ottawa.

For New Jersey, 2B Rylan Sandoval hit a solo home run, his third of the year.

CAN-AM: Luck Of The Irish Not With The Champions, Fall 7-4 To Boulders

OTTAWA, ON – A 12-hit attack pushed the Boulders past the Champions 7-4 at RCGT Park. Rockland opened the scoring in the top of the second when LF Devin Harris connected on a two-RBI double, and added two more in the third. 1B Jared Schlehuber hit a sacrifice fly to put Rockland up 3-0, and 3B Mike Fransoso singled home another run. The lead was extended to 6-1 in the top of the fifth on a sacrifice fly from DH Marcus Nidiffer and another RBI single by Fransoso. SS Junior Arrojo’s RBI single in the sixth capped the scoring for Rockland. 2B Pat McKenna was 3-for-4 with a walk to lead Rockland.

On the mound, LHP Jason Byers allowed two runs on three hits over six innings, picking up the win. The save went to RHPEdgar Valle, who struck out two in three innings to finish the job.

1B Alexander Malleta was 2-for-3 with a home run for Ottawa.

CAN-AM: Second Inning Offensive Explosion Helps Champs Overcome Miners

OTTAWA, ON – The Champions’ offensive attack exploded in a five-run second and added on four more in the seventh and eighth innings, allowing the Champions to hold of the Miners 9-6. In the second, all five runs came across on plays without a base hit, but RF Derrick Pyles came up with a two-RBI single in the seventh, scoring on an RBI double from LF Matt Helms. An RBI groundout in the eighth plated the final run for Ottawa. Pyles and 1B Alexander Malleta each had two-hit games for the Champions.

LHP Yean Carlos Gil struck out six in five innings of work, earning the win for the Champions. The save went to RHP Tyler Wilson, who struck out two in a scoreless, 1-2-3 ninth.

For Sussex County, 1B Chris Jacobs was 3-for-4 with a home run.

CAN-AM: Champions Canada Day Game Recovery After Rain Delay

OTTAWA, ON – Ottawa 2B Albert Cartwright hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh to score Michael Mastroberti to push the champions past the Sussex County Miners 7-6. Champions’ CF Kenny Bryant had a great day going 4-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored as reliever Kevin Perez received the win. Ottawa outhit Sussex County 14-9. For the Miners, CF Jay Austin went 3-for-5 with five RBI.

CAN-AM: Champs Rally Falls Short To Shikoku

OTTAWA, ON – Two runs in the ninth inning helped push Shikoku Island past Ottawa 6-5. Reliever Yosuke Kinoshita logged the win out of the bullpen tossing two innings and allowing one earned run. LF Takahiro Hayashi went 2-for-4 with a home run. For Ottawa, CF Sebastien Boucher paced the offence going 3-for-3 at the plate.

CAN-AM: Champions Close Out International Series With Cuba

OTTAWA, ON – After losing big in game two of their series versus the Cuban national team, the Ottawa Champions stormed back to defeat the Cubans 6-3 in front of 5,466 fans in the series finale.

The Father’s Day festivities inside RCGT Park brought enthusiastic fans out in droves. Over the weekend, Champions supporters beat the heat all three days to put over 16,200 fans into the park over the series against Cuba.

They even featured loud Cuban fans singing, dancing, and banging drums all weekend long. The events made for a fun atmosphere inside the park.

The Cubans began the game on a good note. They scored three runs in the first two innings of the game, picking up where they left off last night.

With Julio Martinez on third base in the first, Luis Robert popped up to shortstop, but Daniel Bick fell down while making the putout. That allowed the Cubans to score their first run of the game.

Ottawa answered in the bottom half, but the top of the second proved to be trouble.

With the score now 1-1, Bick made an error at shortstop. After that, the national team sent five more batters to the plate and ended up with a 3-1 lead.

While the national team got off to a hot start, they weren’t the only Cubans having a good day.

Ottawa’s Cuban National Alexander Malleta tied the game in the bottom of the fourth inning, lacing a double into the left-centre gap to bring home two runs.

Then, Sebastien Boucher would take the game into his hands.

The Gatineau native gave his team the lead in the fifth, hammering a moonshot over the right field wall for a two-run homerun. The ball cleared the service road and sailed out of RCGT Park.

Malleta came through with another RBI single in the fifth, to give Ottawa a 6-3 lead.

Daniel Cordero (W, 4-1) picked up his fourth victory of the season. He allowed three runs in six innings, with just two earned. Cuban reliever Lazaro Blanco (L, 0-1) was saddled with the loss.

Notably, Champions second baseman Michael Mastroberti came up with a big performance in his first career professional start. He went 3-for-5 with a double, earning CKDJ Player of the Game.

CAN-AM: Champs Blow Early Lead To Defeat Jackals 17-16 In 12 Innings

OTTAWA, ON – The Ottawa Champions defeated the New Jersey Jackals in 12 innings to record their second victory on the year. Reliever Luis Parra earned the win in relief shutting out the Jackals for three innings while striking out six. Ottawa’s Robert Garza led the way offensively for the Champions going 3-for-6 with three runs scored and three RBI. In the contest, each team had 14 hits as four Jackals and six Champions had multiple hits in the game. New Jersey’s Dustin Lawley had an excellent game at the plate going 2-for-5 with seven RBI.

CAN-AM: Champions Grauer 2 Run Walkoff Home Run Difference Over Jackals

OTTAWA, ON – Ottawa DH Daniel Grauer belted a two-run walkoff home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to send the Champions to a 4-2 opening night win over the New Jersey Jackals. New Jersey had a 2-0 lead going into the bottom of the eighth only to see Ottawa score two runs to tie it and then win it in the ninth with the Grauer home run. Champions 2B Robert Garza went 2-for-3 with a run scored and SS Daniel Bick drove in a pair of runs in a 1-for-4 night. Ottawa reliever Calvin Rayburn tossed an inning of work with three walks to notch the win. Jackals 1B Art Charles went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run.

CAN-AM: Champions Crushed By Aigles (Eagles)

Ottawa, ON – The Trois-Rivieres Aigles racked up 17 hits as they took care of the Ottawa Champions 12-2.

Eight different Aigles registered at least one hit in the game and half of them had three or more hits. SS Pedro Lopez had a team-high four hits and scored a pair of runs. LF Craig Hertler, DH Joel Carranaza and 3B Eric Grabe each added three hits. Carranaza hit a three-run home run as a part of the Aigles’ seven-run fifth inning.

For the Champions, three different batters – 2B Albert Cartwright, 1B Bryce Massanari and 3B/SS Roberto Ramirez – had a pair of hits.

CAN-AM: Ottawa Slays Garden State On Star Wars Day

Ottawa, ON – It was all Ottawa in this contest as the Champions banged out 13 hits in defeating the Garden State Grays by the score of 12-2. Ottawa SS Chris Winder and CF Sebastien Boucher each had 2-for-5 days at the plate with a combined two triples, four runs scored and six RBI. Champions LF Mike Schwartz had three hits in five at-bats and two RBI and RF Corey Caswell added a home run, scored two runs and drove in three. Ottawa starting pitcher Wilmer Font tossed six solid innings to notch his ninth win of the season. Font allowed an unearned run on six hits and struck out two batters.

CAN-AM: Champions Get By Goldeyes 7-6

Ottawa, ON – The Ottawa Champions took the lead with four runs in the sixth inning and held off a late surge to edge the Winnipeg Goldeyes 7-6.

In the sixth, the Goldeyes plated three runs in the top of the frame to take a 5-3 lead but in the bottom of the inning C Daniel Grauer and 2B Albert Cartwright hit back-to-back RBI singles to tie the game and they both scored when SS Daniel Bick reached on an error. In the top of the ninth, SS Casio Grider drew a walk and came around to score when CF Reggie Abercrombie — who was 3-for-5 — singled but Reliever Alan DeRatt retired the next to batters in order to end the game.

The save marks 21 on the year for DeRatt, the second-best mark in the league. CF Sebastien Boucher had a game-high three RBI as he went 2-for-4.

CAN-AM: Champions Split Doubleheader With Grays

Ottawa, ON – After a long pitcher’s duel, the Ottawa Champions pulled away to beat the Garden State Grays 3-0 in the first game of a doubleheader. With the game still scoreless, Ottawa got on the board in the sixth inning with a sacrifice scoring SS Daniel Bick. In the seventh, the Champions tacked on two more runs through 2B Albert Cartwright’s RBI single and another sacrifice. Garden State 2B Joe Poletsky led the team with two hits.

The Ottawa pitching staff used four different pitchers in the shutout. Laetten Galbraith went the first three innings, then Drew Cisco – who got the win – pitched the next four, and finally Tyler Wilson and Alan DeRatt each pitched an inning.

The Garden State Grays avenged the earlier game with a late four-run rally to defeat the Ottawa Champions 6-4. Ottawa held a 4-2 lead headed to the seventh inning, but Garden State scored twice to tie it up, in part because of a 2B Joe Poletsky RBI double. Then they scored two in the eighth behind two singles to take the win. Matt Wickswat picked up the win for the Grays after three scoreless innings to finish the game.

Earlier in the fourth inning, Ottawa scored three runs on one play. With the bases loaded, 3B Kevin Carr hit a double that scored all runners. Starting Ottawa pitcher Andrew Werner had a quality start with six innings pitched and just two runs allowed.
